Egmont Story House, based in Sweden, will be releasing a new Phantom comic book which will feature Rex, the adopted son of the Phantom.
Rex made his debut in the 68th Sunday story published in 1966 titled ‘Rex King’, written by Lee Falk and illustrated by Sy Barry. An elderly missionary couple, Jeremiah and Maria, found an abandoned baby boy outside their door. They took him into the jungle where they succumbed to a disease, but the baby remained healthy. The Phantom appeared, scaring off vultures and killing a leopard, saving the infant.

In 1982, the story ‘Tale of Rex’ was published as the 149th daily story written by Lee Falk and illustrated by Sy Barry. In this story, the Phantom discovers the identity of Rex’s mother (Lisandra) and manages to force his way into the ageing Prince Baronkhan’s stronghold where he explains to the Prince that Rex is, in fact, the Prince’s grandson.
Rex would later become the ruler of Baronkhan at the age of 12.
Published by Egmont Story House, ‘Fantomen – Fursten av Baronkhan’, which translates to ‘The Phantom – The Prince of Baronkhan’ will be a softcover book containing 125 black and white pages printed with Swedish text.
The front cover currently seen in online advertisements can be seen below, illustrated by Luca Erbetta.

But among his advisors and subjects are power-hungry tyrants who are ready to do anything to get Rex out of the way. Lucky for him, his foster father is none other than the Phantom – the walking ghost!
