The Phantom Found In Chilean Art Exhibition

The “OOPS! de Dick Tracy a Hellboy” exhibition, curated by Chilean artist Virro, is currently on display at the Sala Viña Arlegui 683 in Viña del Mar, Chile. This captivating showcase features a series of paintings that reinterpret classic comic book characters, bridging the gap between vintage and modern heroes.

Virro’s artwork pays homage to iconic figures from the hardboiled genre, starting with legendary detectives like Dick Tracy and extending to contemporary characters such as Rorschach from Watchmen, Marv from Sin City, Wonder Woman, Iron Man, Catwoman, Hellboy and many more. Employing a vibrant Pop Art style, the artist celebrates both antiheroes and their adversaries, creating a nostalgic yet fresh perspective on these beloved figures.

Virro aimed to “build a bridge to the past, allowing the public to explore the origins of comics and appreciate their evolution over time“. The showcase exemplifies his dedication to connecting historical and contemporary artistic expressions, inviting viewers to reflect on the progression of visual storytelling.

The Phantom is represented in a singular piece of artwork at the exhibition, Acrylic on canvas measuring 100cm x 100cm, as seen below.

The exhibition is open to the public until the 14th of February 2025, with visiting hours from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Admission is free, making it accessible for all art and comic enthusiasts.
