Phantom Comic #64 By Frew Publications At Auction

An upcoming auction listing has been posted on the US based Heritage Auctions website featuring a golden age Phantom comic book published in Australia.

Published by Frew Publications in Australia back in November 1953, Phantom comic book number 64 is being auctioned on the Heritage Auctions website. The comic book is published with 24 black and white pages, with color only found on the front cover. It contains the Phantom adventure ‘Bobo The Toy Dog’, written by Lee Falk and illustrated by Wilson McCoy.

The comic book belongs to a Phantom comic book series initially launched by Frew Publications in Australia in September 1948. This long-standing series has captivated audiences for generations and continues to entertain both new readers and devoted fans alike. Since its inception, the series has evolved, with compelling storylines and dynamic illustrations that reflect the changing tastes of its readership. Remarkably, it remains in publication to this day, with edition number 1985 currently available for purchase in news agencies across Australia.

Phantom comic book number 64 is presented below and is currently available for auction on the Heritage Auction website. It has been certified by CGC and is encased in a protective slab.

The advertisement description reads:

The Phantom #64 Australian Edition (Frew Publication, 1953) CGC FN/VF 7.0 Off-white to white pages. Wilson McCoy art. Lee Falk story. Not listed in Overstreet. Currently the only CGC-certified copy of the issue. CGC census 12/24: 1 in 7.0, none higher.

CGC Grader Notes: crease left bottom of back cover, light wear all corners of cover, moderate foxing to cover.

The comic is in excellent condition, exhibiting minimal signs of wear and boasting vibrant colors, which is a rarity for Phantom comic books published by Frew Publications during this era. These early editions were produced on substandard paper, rendering them fragile and susceptible to damage.

The action is due to go live on the 11th of December 2024.
