The USA based publisher, Mad Cave Studios have announced that they’ll be publishing a Phantom comic book for next years Free Comic Book Day event.

Free Comic Book Day (or FCBD) is a single day when participating comic book specialty shops around the world give away comic books absolutely free to anyone who comes into their shops! Founded on the belief that for every person out there, there’s a comic book they’ll love, the annual event offers a huge selection of free titles designed to appeal to a broad range of age levels and their tastes.

Mad Cave Studios have shared on their social media accounts that a Phantom comic book will be published and made available for next years FCBD, due to be held on the 3rd of May 2025. Their post reads:

We’re honored to announce The Phantom, Lee Falk’s highly influential superhero, is back in an all-new adventure series, kicking off at your favorite local comic shop in celebration of Free Comic Book Day 2025!

A link is also provided in the social media posts leading us to the FCBD website. Amongst the large range of comic books planned for release (a total of 46 comic books) for the event next year, we see the Phantom also featured. No details are provided as yet on what the Phantom comic book will feature within, however an image is provided of what the front cover may look like, which comes with a disclaimer ‘Not Final – Pending Licensor Approval‘.

This occurrence isn’t the first time we see a Phantom comic book appearing at the yearly FCBD event. Hermes Press in the USA published a Phantom comic book for the event in 2015 featuring an image on the front cover by Don Newton (seen below left). Hermes Press then released a second edition the following year with cover art by Jim Aparo (see below right). Mad Cave Studios are currently publishing a Defenders of the Earth comic book series which commenced in August 2024, due to contain 8 editions in total, with the first 4 editions either released of available for pre-order. These editions can be found on the Mad Cave Studios website HERE
