Announced by Mad Cave Studios, we see a Defenders of the Earth edition number 1 exclusive variant cover.

The comic book will contain cover art by Alex Saviuk, an exclusive variant cover for Mad Cave Studios Defenders of the Earth comic book edition number 1. This edition will be available for purchase direct from the Mad Cave Studio website and also at the New York Comic Con held in New York, USA from the 17th-20th of October at Booth #3441.

The exclusive variant cover depicts the Phantom, Flash Gordon, Mandrake the Magician, Lothar and Ming the Merciless and is titled ‘Mad Cave Convention Exclusive‘. The story is written by Dan DiDio, illustrated by Jim Calafiore, colored by Juancho Velez and lettered by Carlos M. Mangual.

Flash Gordon, The Phantom, Mandrake the Magician and Lothar are united again in this reimagining of the classic animated series, Defenders of the Earth. Picking up with characters and storylines from the original series, Flash confronts Ming in a final battle, only to find that even greater threats await him as his teammates as they each must confront ghosts of their past to protect their families and future.

The cover artist for the New York Comic Con variant comic book seen above, Alex Saviuk, also originally illustrated the covers with Fred Fredericks (all 4 editions) for the Defenders of the Earth comic book series, released by Star Comics (a brand owned by Marvel) in USA in 1987.
