Phantom Club To Launch In Finland

A new Phantom Club is being established in Finland by Egmont Kustannus Oy Ab.

Mustanaamio Kerho, which translates to ‘Black Mask Club’, with ‘Black Mask’ being the translation for the Phantom in Finland. This Phantom Club will be the second to appear in Finland, with the first one established in 1970 by the comic book publisher of the Phantom at the time in Finland, Semic Press Oy. This club is no longer in existence. More information on this Club can be found HERE

Egmont Kustannus Oy Ab (a division of Story House Egmont), based in Tampere, Finland will operate the Phantom Club. They’ve commissioned ArkiDesign, based in Helsinki, Finland to produce a range of King Features Syndicate licensed Phantom merchandise/collectibles.

ArkiDesign created the artwork and design found on the 2 beer can lines released in Finland, the first by the Maku Brewing Co. 4 cans in 2023 (seen below left) and the second by Pyynikin Brewing Company, 3 cans in 2024 (seen below right).

It’s unclear as yet as to how the Phantom Club will operate, whether it’ll be promoted by Egmont Kustannus Oy Ab via publications as seen with the first Club from 1970 or if it’ll be operated online via a website subscription/membership.

The home page of the Mustanaamio Kerho website reads:

The story of Mustanaamio began as a daily newspaper cartoon in February 1936. In the 1960s, cartoons began to be drawn with a more realistic approach, which eventually made Mustanaamio very popular.

The Black Mask Club was founded in Finland in 1970 and was run by Semic Press Oy (today Egmont Kustannus Oy), which published the magazine. Club members received a membership certificate and membership card, as well as password codes and Mustanaamio rings. Members of the Black Mask Club could participate in competitions published in newspapers.

Now the Black Mask Club will soon start its activities again for the old members of the Black Mask Club and all adult fans interested in superheroes. ArkiDesign, which distributes Mustanaamio products to retail stores, together with Egmont Kustannus, is responsible for this website and operations.

We will provide more information when the club starts.
