Original George Wilson Art At Auction

An upcoming auction listing has been posted on the US based Heritage Auctions website featuring original comic cover art by George Wilson.

The cover art is found in the comic book series by Gold Key, number 13, published in August 1965. The comic book features the Phantom story ‘The Phantom Chronicles‘, written by Dick Wood and illustrated by Bill Lignante. The cover art is completed by George Wilson, who illustrated all comic book front covers of the Gold Key editions in the series, 17 in total.

Published in USA, this series of Phantom comic books were initially released by Gold Key in 1962 (issue numbers 1 to 17), but taken over by King Comics in 1966 (issue numbers 18 to 28), who was also taken over by Charlton Comics in 1969 (issue numbers 30 to 74). The original artwork offered is painted in gouache on illustration board with a matted image area measuring 15.75″ x 19.75″. The artwork is being sold framed, which measures 22.25″ x 26.25″. The images as posted by Heritage Auctions can be seen below.
