Frew Publications, the publisher of Phantom comic books in Australia have announced that they are now selling digital versions of their Phantom comic books.

In an email sent today to subscribers of Phantom comic books, Dudley Hogarth, the Publisher at Frew Publications, amongst other news and advertisements, made receivers of the email aware that Phantom comic books from 2022 can now be purchased either in ‘Paper Comic‘ or ‘Digital Comic‘ format.

The email notifies us:

Firstly we are beginning to introduce a digital version of the comic on our website at this stage all our 2022 Comics are available to be purchased as a download and can be read on your PC, Laptop, Tablet or Ipad at home. We hope there may be some interest in this from international readers in particular. Your adoption of the digital will give us some indication of its relevance as an idea.

If you are looking at a 2022 Comic on the shop you will see a window at the bottom that says Material and you have an option of Paper Comic or Digital Comic so all you need to do is select Digital Comic and you will receive a download link. No waiting and no postage cost is the obvious advantage and a considerable discount on RRP!

Dudley also notes that the catalogue of Phantom digital comic books will be expanded if the offering is a success. Viewing the Frew Publications website, a dropdown selection box has been added to each applicable comic book sale listing at the base, under the heading of ‘Material‘. An example is shown below with the 2022 Christmas Special.

The sale listing also notes the terms applicable to the digital comic download:

We now offer this as a physical paper comic or as a digital comic. Please be aware that if choosing a Digital Comics from the dropdown menu below they are for private usage only! For copyright security the link is valid for 2 downloads and will expire in 7 days after purchase, downloads are limited to 2 IP addresses only.

It’s great to see Frew Publications thinking outside the box with this new initiative, not only by keeping the offer on their own website to ensure control of it’s own created content, but also from the point of view that not all readers have access to a physical copy of Frew Publications produced Phantom comic books.

It’s certainly a great way to reach a larger audience, both on a domestic and international scale. Not to also mention that this would be a great way to introduce Phantom comic books created by Frew Publications to readers who may of never seen inside the covers.
