On the cover of the upcoming Comics Revue comic book, we see a fantastic illustration by Filipino artist Reno Maniquis.
Posted on Facebook by Rick Norwood, the editor at USA based Manuscript Press who publish Comics Revue, we’re shown the front cover of the upcoming edition, due for release on the 18th of October 2023. No further details on this edition are available at this stage, such as page count and contents to be published within.
The Forbidden Planet website gives us some broad information on this edition:
America’s longest-running magazine of classic comics now has twice as many pages of strips as the earlier version, on better paper, includes 19 pages of full-color comic strips, and features Drago by Burne Hogarth, Flash Gordon by Harry Harrison, Rick O’Shay by Stan Lynde, Gasoline Alley by Dick Moores, Alley Oop by V. T. Hamlin, Steve Canyon by Milton Caniff, and The Phantom by Lee Falk and Wilson McCoy, Casey Ruggles by Warren Tufts.
Reno Maniquis provided us with some ‘teaser’ posts on his Instagram account back in February of this year. The first cropped images he posted was very much a work in progress image of the Phantom, with sketch outlines clearly visible, seen below on the left.
His second post shows the Phantom complete, seen below on the right.
The final cover illustration of the Comics Revue edition by Reno Maniquis can be seen below, a dynamic fight scene in a distant exotic place.

I’m sure further details on the contents of this edition will be available online closer to the release date. In the meantime, the cover is certainly a treat on the eyes, especially for fans of the Phantom.
