Appearing on the CBR website, we read an interesting article titled ‘10 Superheroes Even Older Than Superman‘.
Written by Ashley Land on the 13th of June, 2023, the post features comic book heroes released prior to the release of Superman, a creation by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster in 1938. These include characters such as Flash Gordon, Zorro, Doc Savage, Tarzan, Thor and more.
The Phantom is also found amongst these comic book characters noted. Ashley writes about the Phantom:
The Phantom, created by Lee Falk in 1936 as a comic strip hero, is a costumed vigilante protector of the fictional nation Bangalla in Africa. One of the few multi-generational heroes in comics, the Phantom mantle is passed down between fathers and sons, giving the impression of immortality.
The Phantom was the first hero to wear a skin-tight costume, setting a precedent that would become the norm in comics going forward. Also known as the Ghost Who Walks, he mostly battles threats like piracy, secret societies, and looters of the treasures of Bangalla.
