Kit & Heloise
Twin children of the current 21st Phantom and Diana Palmer-Walker. According to tradition, one of them will be the next Phantom (the 22nd Phantom). In their younger years, they were taught by Miss Tagama, Rex’s old teacher, in the Skull Cave.
Rex was found floating in a raft by Mori fishermen. The Mori fisherman kept him for a few days before leaving him outside the door of an elderly missionary couple in the jungle. The missionaries took care of him and intended to adopt him when they suddenly died of a jungle disease. When the missionaries died, Rex eventually ended up with the Phantom and grew up as his foster son.
In connection with the Phantom’s intervention against an illegitimate ruler in the Principality of Baronkhan, it emerged that Rex was the lost prince’s grandson and thus the closest heir to the throne. A few years later, Rex moved to Baronkhan to take over the government from his ailing grandfather, and when the prince died a short time later, he became Baronkhan’s prince. However, he still has good contact with the Phantom and his family. He is in love with the mistress of the neighboring kingdom, Alicia.
Dr. Lamanda Luaga, is the first president of the African Republic of Bengali. As the newly appointed president, he suffered a civil war when General Bababu rebelled to come to power. With the help of the Phantom, however, it was resolved, although Bababu has since constantly made new attempts to seize power and seek revenge.
In the 1990’s, however, the evil Kigali Lubanga appeared and managed to become president through an extremely dirty campaign where he managed to frame Luaga for election fraud, and create the impression that Luaga ordered a murder of Lubanga.
Luaga managed to come back as president after Lubanga “died”. When Lubanga was resurrected, Luaga placed him in a special prison, without convicting him for anything as there was no proper evidence of what Lubanga had done. When Lubanga then escaped, this then came to light and Luaga resigned. Although Lubanga tried to take over the country in a coup very soon after, Luaga did not return to the presidency.
Dr. Lamanda Luaga has a son named Lon and has recently married Rex’s and Tom-Tom’s former school teacher Taru Tagama.
Joonkar was an African emperor over a huge empire in what is now Bengali . He became friends with the 6th Phantom who saved him from a tiger. The Phantom received Alexander the Great’s diamond cup from Joonkar as he has on several occasions been listed as the owner of it at some point in history.
The 6th Phantom also rescued Joonkar’s betrothed Sheebah (Saba) from pirates along with the newly formed Jungle Patrol. Sadly, Sheebah died a year. Joonkar then donated Keela-Wee, where he himself had spent his wedding night, to the 6th Phantom.
The 6th Phantom then came to the rescue of Joonkar when he was shanghaied and served as a rowing slave for an emir. As a thank you for all the services, Joonkar is said to have had the Phantom Rock sculpted as an eternal memory of his friend the 6th Phantom, although it may have been the case that the stonemasons had done the hard work about 50 years earlier (or maybe they were the ones Joonkar hired).
Joonkar had a nephew named Omar and was good friends with the 7th Phantom, but he probably died before 1710 because Joonkar died without heirs.
The Singh Brotherhood
The Singh Brotherhood are Pirates and the arch-enemies of the Phantom. The Singh Brotherhood were created by Lee Falk and Ray Moore, and first appeared in the very first Phantom adventure, (titled “The Singh Brotherhood”).
The Singh Brotherhood are the Pirates who attacked the ship off the coast of Bengali in which the future 1st Phantom was traveling on and is the basis of the Phantom’s oath.
Sala appeared in the very first Phantom adventure (The Singh Brotherhood) by Lee Falk and Ray Moore. She returned in a few later adventures as the leader of The Sky Band (a group of airline pilot pirates), but inwardly proved to have a good heart and tried to improve.
In 2005, Sala’s daughter Sara (as seen above) appeared in a Phantom adventure produced by Moonstone Books in the US.
General Babo Bababu
General Babo Bababu was Dr Lamanda Luaga’s opponent in the first election after Bengali’s independence. When Bababu lost, he started a revolt and tried to kill the newly elected President Luaga. The revolt was interrupted when the Phantom led him to the Skull Cave and let him fight a duel with Luaga. As an old boxer, Luaga won easily. Bababu ended up in prison, but has repeatedly tried to demand revenge through assassination of Lamanda Luaga and coup attempts.
He has a daughter, Lila who is married to Lamanda Luaga’s son Lon .
