The Newsstand Lithograph Tin Advertisements were produced by RGE in Brazil in 1983.
RGE (Rio Gráfica E Editora) located in Rio de Janeiro Brazil, a subsidiary of ‘Grupo Globo’ was founded by Roberto Marinho in 1952, ceasing operations in 1986. For over 35 years RGE published a multitude of comic books, magazines and collectible pop culture related collectibles.
The newsstand advertisements measure 4” in diameter and are made of tin. They would have of been nailed to a corner ‘post’ of a newsstand in Brazil, as were common at the time. Similar types of displays were often hung above magazine and comic book racks.
Similar images to that found on the newsstand tin advertisements could also be seen on the cover of Fantasma comic books. Below we see number 360 published by RGE in 1985 (2 years later) as seen on one of the advertisements.
